AMAI 7 takes its name from the japanese word amai, meaning “sweet,” a nod to the origins of chamoy, brought to mexico by japanese immigrants and transformed into a beloved local flavor. because our mezcal is blended with chamoy, we wanted a name that honored that shared heritage while expressing the drink’s naturally sweet and tangy profile.
 
The number 7 was added because it symbolizes luck and good fortune in both mexico and japan, making it the perfect touch for a product meant to celebrate positive moments. after all, when things go our way or fortune smiles on us, the tradition in both cultures is the same, we raise a drink to celebrate.

Mezcal

Mezcal traces its origins back to pre-hispanic mexico, where indigenous communities discovered that roasting and fermenting agave hearts produced a sacred, smoky drink used in rituals and celebrations. after the arrival of the spanish, distillation techniques were introduced, transforming this ancient beverage into the mezcal we know today.

 

Over centuries, each region of mexico developed its own methods, agave varieties, and flavors, turning mezcal into a craft deeply tied to tradition, terroir, and community. today, mezcal stands as a symbol of mexican heritage—handmade, rooted in ancestral practices, and celebrated around the world for its complexity and authenticity.

Chamoy

Chamoy came to mexico through japanese immigration in the early 20th century, inspired by umeboshi, a salty and tangy pickled plum. over time, japanese communities in mexico adapted the concept using local fruits like apricot, mango, and tamarind, mixing them with salt, sugar and chili. this fusion gave birth to modern chamoy—a balance of salty, sour, sweet and spicy flavors that blended seamlessly into mexican cuisine. today, chamoy is an iconic flavor found in snacks, candies, and even innovative products like our chamoy-infused liqueur.
